Hitchen Road Vineyard award winning wines
We are delighted that all our 2008 wines received
awards at the recent Romeo
Bragato Winemakers' Competition.
Wines that are available at present are:
-
2009 Pinotage
Picked on 4.4.09, this wine has
spent 15 months in a mixture of new and seasoned oak. The
result is a particularly smooth mouth filling wine with
fruity aromas.
2009 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay
These grapes were picked on 1/4/09 at a Brix of 23. This
wine was made in the traditional White Burgandy manner. It
was hand picked, whole bunch pressed and cool barrel
fermented. This was followed by lees stirring and
partial malo lactic fermentation was allowed to occur.
The resulting wine has brilliant clarity and a light
straw colour. There are stone fruit aromas and
a buttery flavour with a clean finish on the palate.
-
2009 Rose
This wine was made from Pinotage grapes picked on 30/3/09
at a Brix of 23. The juice was cool fermented
and the resulting wine is a beautiful shell pink colour
with raspberry and tamarillo notes. This will
make great summer drinking with light meals.
-
2009 Unwooded Chardonnay
These grapes were picked on 1/4/09 at a Brix of 23. The
grapes were hand picked, whole bunch pressed
and fermented in stainless steel at a low temperature. The
resulting wine has brilliant clarity and a light straw
colour, There are citrus and ripe stone fruit aromas
without the buttery flavour associated with a barrel
fermented Chardonnay.
- 2008 Dolcetto - SILVER MEDAL
These grapes were picked on 20/3/08 at a Brix of
23. This Italian variety is a well coloured, luscous,
easy drinking red. This is a particularly good example
of it.
