Hitchen Road Vineyard Pokeno new zealand
Hitchen
Road Vineyard is a 5 acre vineyard on very favourable north
facing slopes above the Pokeno Village, just south of the
Bombay Hills. It is part of a 100 acre pastoral farm and has
a beautiful view over the North Waikato.
All the wines are hand crafted here from grapes that are grown
on the property. The only process that takes place off site
is bottling.
We are 40 minutes south of the Auckland CBD and 50 minutes
north of Hamilton. Visiting the winery is by appointment -
call us on 09 233 6722 or 0274 948 737.
What's Happening at Hitchen
Road Vineyard?
Our Pinotage devotees will be pleased to know that once
again this is available. The 2009 Pinotage is
now back from the bottlers. We gave this wine fifteen months
in the barrel and the result is particularly smooth
and mouth filling.
In the vineyard all the pruning is complete. Some
replanting with Montipulciano and Sangiovesi has been done.
We have planted a few experimental Barberra and Nebiolo.
The 2010 wine is quietly maturing in its barrels.
With all this done, Ken and I are off on an ambitious cycle
trip from the North Sea to the Adriatic with the hope we
will catch up with a few interesting wines on route. If
you would like to follow our progress, go to www.crazyguyonabike.com.
WINE SALES WILL CONTINUE AS USUAL. David is living
out at the Vineyard to keep an eye on things there and Peter
will process and dispatch all internet orders.
When we get home the winter will be a soggy memory and the
new shoots on the vines giving us promise for our 2011 harvest.
